Manny Pacquiao stayed away from the practice for the Pacquiao Vs Cotto match this week to guest on the late night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live. Ariza: Boxing better than basketball for Pacquiao

MANILA – If conditioning coach Alex Ariza would have his way, he’d probably keep Manny Pacquiao away from basketball.

Ariz said Pacquiao sustained an injury on his right knee’s lateral collateral ligament while playing basketball. The injury occured mid-way this year, after the Ricky Hatton fight.

“It’s gone, thank God,” Ariza told abs-cbnNEWS.com while Pacquiao was having a band rehearsal in Quezon City last week.

Pacquiao’s L.A. Training Continues

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao has already started continuing his training at the Wild Card Gym despite the jet-lag after arriving in Los Angeles from the Philippines just a few days ago. For his first day of training for the Pacquiao Vs Cotto match, he had a two-hour workout.

From an interview in ABS-CBN, Pacquiao said, “We have to continue our training kahit nandito sa America. We have two more weeks of hard training.” He will face the pride of Puerto Rico, Miguel Cotto on November on November 14, 2009.

MANILA – While members of Team Pacquiao declared with certainty that the pound-for-pound king will knock out Miguel Cotto on November 14, Manny Pacquiao refused to predict the outcome of his “Firepower” bout.

Hundreds of cheering fans greeted the People’s Champ when his flight landed at LAX  via Philippine Airlines around 7 PM, He will continue his training there to get him geared up for his upcoming Pacquiao Vs Cotto “Firepower” fight for the World Boxing organizatiom (WBO) Welterweight Championship title against his target, three-time world champion Miguel Cotto.

Referee and Judges of the Pacquiao vs Cotto Fight, Revealed

The referee for the much awaited Pacquiao Vs Cotto bout has been revealed. According to GMA News, Kenny Bayless, one of the best referees in the world of boxing today, has been named the in-ring official for Cotto’s World Boxing Association (WBO) welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bayless is a top-notch professional boxing referee from Las Vegas. He was also the third man in the ring in three of the People’s Champ’s knockout bouts, with Ricky Hatton last May, Juan Manuel Marquez in 2008, and Erik Morales in 2006. And, unlike Pacquiao’s card, Bayless was the referee of Cotto’s lone career loss to Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito in July 2008 via TKO. It does not really spell anything on who will win the upcoming bout, but it just sounds interesting to note.
